Intelligent Aquaculture
Fully Indoor Fish Farming & Automated Feeding
Fully enclosed, solar-roofed fish halls equipped with automatic feeders.
All fish tanks are housed inside fully roofed RAS facilities—there are no outdoor fish ponds. The concept includes automatic feed dispensers, water-quality sensors, aeration and environmental controls. Indoor housing may moderate outdoor temperature impacts; measurable energy savings require engineering validation.
Key points
• Fully indoor recirculating aquaculture
• Automated feeding and water monitoring
• Indoor environmental and temperature control
Dedicated Fry & Juvenile Fish Nursery
Separate smaller tanks and tailored rearing environments for early growth
The fry and juvenile nursery is physically separated from the mature-fish area, with dedicated smaller tanks, aeration, monitoring and feeding. This facilitates stage-specific rearing and research into biosecurity and cross-contamination risk.
Key points
• Fry separated from grow-out fish
• Growth-stage-specific rearing
• Dedicated monitoring and biosecurity research
Separate Multi-Level Cultivation Greenhouse
A daylight roof, multi-tier hydroponic racks and supplemental LED lighting
The planting greenhouse accounts for approximately half of the principal facility concept and is separate from fish farming. A transparent roof admits daylight, while multi-tier hydroponic racks, supplemental grow lights and controlled nutrient circulation support crop research.
Key points
• Daylight-admitting greenhouse roof
• Multi-tier hydroponic growing racks
• Supplemental LEDs and nutrient circulation
Recirculating Water & Filtration Systems
Integrating solids removal, biofiltration, oxygen control and disinfection
The RAS concept includes solids removal, nitrifying biological filters, gas exchange, recirculation pumps, UV treatment options and monitoring. Water recycling is intended to improve resource efficiency; performance will require commissioning and testing.
Key points
• Mechanical filtration and solids removal
• Nitrifying biofiltration and oxygen management
• Water recirculation, disinfection and monitoring
AI Monitoring & Intelligent Feeding Research
Using water data and fish growth information to inform feeding decisions
Research will investigate water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and ammonia data alongside the timing, portion control and alerts of automated feeders. AI optimisation remains a proposed R&D workstream, not a completed commercial result.
Key points
• Temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and ammonia data
• Automated feeding schedules and portions
• Alerts and data analytics
Biotechnology, Nutrition & Product Quality Research
Investigating nutrition, microbiology, fish health and crop quality
Proposed research includes improved feeds, waterborne pathogen risk, fish survival and eating quality, and vegetable growth, nutrition and taste. Future collaboration with mainland university aquaculture and agricultural departments is envisaged but not yet secured.
Key points
• Advanced feed and precision nutrition research
• Water microbiology and fish health research
• Crop growth, nutrition and taste research
Solar PV, Water Recycling & Energy-Efficient Temperature Control
Embedding sustainability in roofs, water systems and temperature control
The fish hall concept uses a solid roof with solar PV, insulation, efficient pumps, recirculating water and temperature controls. The greenhouse combines sunlight with LED supplementation. These measures aim to support ESG objectives, subject to energy, water and emissions assessment.
Key points
• Solar PV on the fish-farming hall
• Water recirculation and efficient pumping
• Efficient temperature control and daylight growing
